April 14,2020 -- A 7.1 magnitude earthquake hit Yushu city, Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai province in 2010. After only three years’ reconstruction, the city has taken on a new look.
Before the earthquake, there were only two decent roads in the city with an elevation of 4,000 meters. The bumpy road from Xining, capital of Qinghai, to Yushu has been replaced by the Gonghe-Yushu freeway which is the first in the permafrost region of Qinghai-Tibet plateau.
In terms of infrastructure construction, there was only one square in the city years ago but now there are nine. A music fountain has been established in the Gesar Square. The sixth highest altitude airport in the world, Yushu airport, has adopted 5G and smart technologies.
Local people’s lives have improved a lot. The heating, water supply and sewage disposal facilities have all been upgraded. Residents can also order a variety of food online.
“Although small, Yushu is convenient and comfortable,” said Zhaxi Nima, member of the standing committee of the CPC Yushu Municipal Committee and head of the Publicity Department of Yushu.
