Tibet improves social security system in 2017

Feb. 9, 2018 -- In 2017, fruitful results have been reaped from Tibet's efforts to improve its social security system.

54,600 new jobs were created in urban areas, 59,300 farmers and herdsmen received training, 1.1 million surplus rural laborers were transferred, labor income of 2.8 billion yuan was generated, and the registered urban unemployment rate was down  under 2.7 percent.

The employment rate of university graduates reached 90.02 percent. 49,700 people living in poverty got job training and 46,200 people found jobs. The number of people covered by social insurance reached 3.43 million, and the social insurance funds topped 1.5 million yuan. 

In 2018, 50,000 new jobs in urban areas will be created, and the urban surveyed and registered unemployment rates will be controlled under 5.5 percent and 3 percent respectively. A system will also be set up to help more than 20,000 university graduates find jobs.

In addition, the region will provide training services for 53,400 farmers and herdsmen and transfer 1 million surplus laborers in farming and stockbreeding areas, generating a labor income of 2.3 billion yuan.

More measures will be adopted to promote five kinds of insurance in the region, guaranteeing better livelihoods for its urban and rural residents.
