Jan. 19, 2018 -- The 16.4-km Samdrubling Tunnel on the Lhasa-Nyingchi section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway was completed Wednesday. The construction of the tunnel, located in Sangri county of Tibet’s Lhoka city, began in December 2014. More than 1,200 workers endured harsh conditions to finish the work. The rock temperature in the tunnel hit as high as 89.9°C. To protect workers' health, ventilation fans and automatic spraying facilities were installed in the tunnel. Emergency rescue stations were also set up at the entrance and exit of the tunnel. The Lhasa-Nyingchi section is expected to become the first electric railway in Tibet, with bridges and tunnels taking 75 percent of its total length. By: Ma Wenhui |
