The Xizang Autonomous region has preserved a large number of multilingual ancient manuscripts, mainly in Tibetan. These ancient books have been around for a long time and are numerous and voluminous. They bear witness to the long history and culture of the Chinese nation and are the precious heritage of the Chinese nation and human civilization. At present, the total number of ancient Tibetan manuscripts in China is more than 100 volumes, of which about 2/3 are collected in the Xizang Autonomous region.

Since the peaceful liberation of Xizang in 1959, the state and local government have made unremitting efforts to collect, organize, protect and publish ancient manuscripts as an important part of Xizang's cultural undertakings, and have successively invested a large amount of money in repairing, sorting out and publishing a large number of precious ancient books. various archives and libraries have collected and protected a large number of folk and temple ancient manuscripts.

Tibetan ancient manuscripts are mainly collected in libraries, museums, archives, temples and folk at all levels. Take the Library of Xizang Autonomous region as an example, most of the versions of ancient manuscripts in the library are engraved and written, mainly packed by the Vatican. Some of them are written with precious raw materials such as gold, silver, agate and so on. Reprinted copies of ancient books have been published since the 12th century and as late as recent years. There are the inland engraved editions of the Yuan Dynasty, all kinds of manuscripts and hidden documents after the 10th century AD, as well as rare and only copy editions.
