The Belt and Road Initiative and the Importance of Tibet
(Mexico) Octavio Ramos Lazcano

In Mexico, we are convinced that integration is a key element in the search for peace and development at national, regional, and international levels. China, as witness to the most dynamic burst of wealth creation in world history, is an example of how planned joint growth brings benefits to everyone involved. The world now stands at a crucial crossroad between opposing world views by the leading economies; while some decide that protectionism is what countries should focus as a main priority, provoking others into canceling or limiting trade agreements, China has become a beacon of connectivity with looks to revitalizing economies and bringing them together through its Belt and Road policy and project.

Based on a win – win ideal, China has exhibited a remarkable capacity for instrumental rationality by including the rest of the world into the grand plan of sustained growth to achieve the greater goal of peace. We, Mexicans, agree that the best way to achieve peace is through greater connectivity and understanding of each other; by including the melding of so many economies we add a key element, the need to work together for a better future for all. As the most ambitious infrastructure development plan in history, it will signal a new era already under way with a different alignment of the world′s economic poles and it will open untold benefits to any and all who partake.

Mexico and China share many things, from a millenary culture to our desire for peace and respect amongst nations; Tibet, as an integral part of China, represents a very important part of the great cultural diversity enjoyed by the Chinese people and the fruits of which you have to offer the world. By opening Tibet to the world you are ensuring that the richness that it represents not only transcends its borders but it also ensures its survival and growth by disseminating a part of Chinese culture to the world.

At the same time, Tibet is not only an intrinsic part of the increasing openness and connectivity of China with the rest of the world, but a key element of the Belt and Road Initiative. Tibet has borders with five different countries, which proposes a special geographical position for any development projects and signifies the best way to develop the entire region through commerce and tourism. Tibet is always in the view of western countries for its difficult periods of history, which presents a unique opportunity to demonstrate the profound levels of cooperation, and vigorous and sustained growth the Initiative generates.

China is poised to become the new world economic and commercial hub, and Tibet brings strength to this historically ambitious ideal, without any doubt, the sum of all of Chinas strengths are the best chance for the Belt and Road Initiative to take the world on its next step for the betterment of all.
