Development of Tibet’s transport boosts economy

Jan. 22, 2017 -- Thanks to the modern three-dimensional transportation network, Tibet's economy and society achieve great development.
 
"Internet plus transport", great improvement in public transport service
 
Since 2016, Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, has built smart transport system and developed "Internet plus transport".
 
At the moment, bus 8 in Lhasa has realized full coverage of free WIFI. People could watch movies, listen to music and play games on the bus. Besides, the electronic bus stop board with WIFI service was also set up.
 
In addition, Tibet IC traffic card will be compatible among 100 cities in China, including Beijing and Tianjing. That will promote the development of Tibet's regional economic integration and tourism industry.
 
Process of transport projects goes well.
 
On April 6 of 2016, Tibet's first batch of key road construction projects in 2016 began at Gonggar County and Shigatse Peace Airport.
 
Lhasa: the process of ring road's construction goes well. 80 percent of south ring road and west ring road has been finished, completing the investment of 2.65 billion yuan and 2.98 billion yuan respectively. 98 percent of the expansion project of Lhasa-Chushur road has been finished. Its main part opened to the traffic on May 30 of 2016.
 
All towns in Chamdo have access to roads. The improvement of transport lays an important foundation for poverty alleviation and economic development.
 
Forging an International Corridor with Communication and Cooperation
 
The Ancient Silk Road is a passway of friendship that promotes trade and trans-civilization communication. China's Tibet is an import hub on the South of Ancient Silk Road, Tang-Tibet Ancient Road and Ancient Tea Horse Road. During the third China Tibet Tourism and Culture Expo, Xie Jinying, director of Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture, said that China's Tibet should forge an International Corridor opening to South Asia by using favorable polices, rich history and culture. Tibet will realize the leapfrog upgrading of transport, trade, culture and tourism, opening wider to the outside world.
 
Comprehensive transportation in economic circle to speed up
 
The year of 2016 is the beginning of 13th Five-Year Plan. The second phase of Lhasa-Nyingchi High Grade Highway will be completed next year. The construction of Lhasa-Tsedang Expressway started on August 26. The expansion of terminal area in Ningchi Menling Airport was finished this year. The main part of Lhasa ring road opened to traffic this year. The process of the construction of Lhasa-Nagqu High Grad Highway and Lhasa-Maizhokunggar railway has gone well.
 
With the center of Lhasa, three-hour economic circle radiating to Shigatse, Shannan, Nyingchi and Nagqu will be formed.
 
During the period of 13th Five-Year Plan, Tibet continues to accelerate the construction of transport infrastructures, improve transportation service and form the comprehensive transportation system, offering the support for poverty alleviation and building a comprehensive well-off society.
