March 12,2020 -- The 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council held a general debate on human rights situations on March 10.

To ensure all people enjoy human rights is a common ideal for humanity, and the Chinese people have been working hard towards it, said Liu Hua, Special Representative for Human Rights of China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The countries who have been pointing fingers at China have their own human rights problems, such as racism, xenophobia, hatred and violence against migrants, brutal police enforcement and large-scale monitoring system.

These countries are not helping developing countries sincerely but using human rights as a tool to impose the format of western democracy and intervene and curb the development of other countries, said Liu.

As for Xinjiang issue, there are two totally different voices. One the one hand, some countries refuse China’s invitation to visit Xinjiang but keep spreading rumours; on the other hand, more than 70 countries stand with China, hailing China’s great progress in Xinjiang, said Liu.

Most of the supportive countries have been to Xinjiang by themselves, so they know the real situation there, Liu added.

China has taken a series of anti-terrorism and de-radicalization measures to prevent and combat terrorism in Xinjiang, including setting up education and training centers, which has effectively protected the human rights of all Chinese people, said Liu.

As for Hong Kong issue, Liu stressed that the demonstration activities started from last June has far exceeded the scope of freedom of assemblies and demonstration. Their violent crimes and behaviours have severely disrupted the normal social order in Hong Kong, and seriously threatened the safety of life and property of the people.

The western mode is not the only way to protect human rights, so every country should follow its own path that suits its own national conditions, said Liu.
