Jan.14,2020-- Around five people were injured on Monday in clashes between protesters and the Lebanese army during demonstrations in the southern city of Sidon, the National News Agency reported.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets in different areas of the country including the capital Beirut and Tripoli to insist on their demands "which were totally neglected by the political ruling class."

People blocked roads while chanting slogans against politicians and the central bank, holding them responsible for the financial and economic deterioration in the country.

Nationwide protests started on Oct. 17, 2019 against Lebanon's ruling class, leading to the resignation of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and the appointment of Hassan Diab as successor.

However, Diab has so far failed to form a new cabinet because of the intervention of different political parties and their bickering about shares in the new government.

Meanwhile, protesters have been demanding an independent government capable of fighting against corruption and implementing serious structural reforms to save the country's financial system from an imminent collapse.
