BEIJING, Jan. 15, 2019 -- Wang Yang, China's top political advisor, stressed firm determination to overcome abject poverty to ensure winning the battle against poverty alleviation.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference National Committee, made the remarks during an inspection in Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Gansu Province from Sunday to Monday.

He called for stronger faith and determination in the battle against abject poverty, as poverty alleviation gets harder with every step towards success.

Speaking highly of the achievements made by the prefecture, he stressed that the quality of the poverty alleviation work should be put in the first place, and more experience in poverty alleviation through industries should be gained to prevent people from falling into poverty again.

Wang asked local officials to stick to the bottomline of honesty and integrity, and say no to the practice of formalities for formalities' sake and bureaucratism, so that the achievements made in poverty alleviation are truly recognized by the people and can stand the test of time.

He also called for better supervision and management over the funds for poverty alleviation to make sure every dime of the funds is spent on what the people need.

In 2013 and 2015, Wang visited the prefecture on two different occasions, carrying out thorough research into the area.
