|Oct. 30, 2018 -- Three Italian scholars -- Andre Malgeretti, president of the Italian Center for International Studies, Alessandro Boliti, head of the Foundation of NATO Defense Academy, and Mateo Bryson, lecturer of Italian Association of International Organizations -- expressed their confidence in Xinjiang’s development in an interview with Guangming Daily, a mainstream Chinese newspaper.
They agreed that Xinjiang's economy has achieved leapfrogging development and people's living standards have been improving in recent years.
Andre Malgeretti said China’s policies for poverty relief in Xinjiang have been positive and we are confident of Xinjiang’s success. China’s policies for Xinjiang will not only boost the region’s development but also handle in a completely new way the various ethnic relationships in this ethnic region.
It is absolutely reasonable for the Chinese government to address Xinjiang's social and development problems in order to eradicate the root causes of separatism, extremism and terrorism. Compared with the past, terrorism attacks are rarely seen in Xinjiang for recent years, which reflect the success of the central government’s governance, said Mateo Bryson. He believes Xinjiang’s dramatical change is also of great significance for local youth, which will provide more opportunities for them.
Alessandro Boliti said the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by China is a great strategy for the global trade and will connect the world more closely. Driven by the initiative, Xinjiang will act as a vibrant cultural exchange gateway to central and south Asia.
