June 25, 2018 -- A delegation of the China Foundation for Human Rights Development (CFHRD) led by Huang Mengfu, former vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and chairman of the CFHRD, visited Latvia from June 19 to 21, 2018.
During the visit, the delegation met with Keymerla, president of the Constitutional Court of Latvia and parliament members like Sergejs Potapkins, chairman of the parliament’s Latvia-China Friendship Group, and held discussions with experts and scholars from the Riga Law Research Institute on human rights development in both countries and international human rights issues of mutual concern.
Huang made an introduction of China’s great progress in human rights development, especially China’s legal protection for human rights.
As a multinational developing country, China pays high attention to the common development of all ethnic groups, Huang said.
China looks forward to carrying out practical cooperation with Latvia in all areas under the Belt and Road Initiative and the “16+1 cooperation” framework. The CFHRD hopes to promote exchanges with relevant organizations in Latvia, said Huang.
The Latvia side spoke highly of China’s great achievements in poverty reduction, social security and law enforcement, and the huge opportunities that the Belt and Road Initiative and “16+1 cooperation” framework have brought to Latvia.
Latvia hopes the exchanges will enhance mutual understanding on human rights protection and promote bilateral ties.
