April 11, 2018 --“Today’s world is facing complex problems and both President Xi Jinping and I believe these problems should be solved through international cooperation and multilateralism instead of resorting to protectionism,” said Guterres, “President Xi’s philosophy of building a community with a shared future for mankind is a great contribution to the international community.”

Guterres highly appreciates China’s partnership with the UN and considers China as a pillar of the multilateral system. “China is very active in global cooperation and is seeking for an effective governance mechanism to address global challenges,” said Guterres.

During his trip in China, Guterres visited China’s training center for peacekeeping troops. He said China has taken concrete action to support peacekeeping operations and has become the largest contributor of peacekeeping troops in the world.

Guterres first came to China in 1984. “After matchless development and modernization, huge changes have taken place in China since 1984,” said Guterres, “China has lifted millions of people out of poverty and all Chinese people have benefited from the country’s development.”
