UN chief: China plays a key role in global governance

April 9, 2018 -- Thanks to the great achievements since its reform and opening up, China is playing an increasingly important role in the global governance system, said Antonio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, before he left for China to attend the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2018.

“We are glad to see China’s participation in global economic governance, which will help to build a more just and harmonious world,” said Guterres, “The Belt and Road Initiative is of great significance not only to developing countries, but also to global development and cooperation.”

Guterres stressed world economic problems should be addressed under a multilateral framework instead of resorting to protectionism.

China is a powerful supporter to world peacekeeping and has dispatched about 2,400 peacekeepers worldwide. China has not only made direct contribution to the UN peacekeeping missions, but also provided its wisdom to world peace and security, said Guterres.
