Mar. 15, 2018 -- China will deepen the household registration reform in 2018 to allow residents who rent houses to obtain urban hukou, or household registration, according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). The reform will encourage migrant workers and rural students to settle down in cities. Meanwhile, cities have been encouraged to remove the threshold of urban household registration for college graduates including graduates returning from abroad and skilled workers. The NDRC urged small and medium-sized cities should fully ease restrictions on household registration. Those who are not able to obtain urban household registration will be covered by the Residence Permit system which would provide basic public services. By: Shi Dongdong |
