With the changing of the global landscape, the western human rights theories have been challenged. The idea of building a community with a shared future for mankind highlights cooperation rather than conflicts between the West and the East so as to promote the integrated development of human rights.

One of the challenges faced by the western human rights theories is the confrontation between values of Christianity and other major religions such as Islam and Buddhism.

Meanwhile, the economic development in the modern industrial civilization has led to environmental pollution, ecological deterioration, moral decay and social fragmentization. People have cast doubt about the legitimacy and validity of the traditional legal system and human rights protection system. The model of liberal democracy, as libertarians still believe successful, has failed in many ways. Nowadays, the world faces a surge of problems such as  Brexit, religious and ethnic conflicts, separatism, and right-wing forces. As a result, we must review the West-centered values and the human rights theories.
