Cross-cultural Human Rights Seminar held in Qingdao

Dec. 12, 2017 -- The Cross-cultural Human Rights Academy 2017 & the 6th Cross-cultural Human Rights Seminar was held in Qingdao, east China’s Shandong province from Dec. 3 to 6. It was organized by the Human Rights Research Center, Shandong University and the Cross-cultural Human Rights Center, VU University Amsterdam.

With the theme of “building a community of shared future for mankind in the area of human rights,” the seminar attracted some 40 experts from China, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Palestine, Vietnam, Netherlands, Britain, Columbia, Panama and Kenya.

“During the general debate of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly, President Xi Jinping stressed that peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy and freedom represent the common values of the mankind. The values have laid the foundation for cross-cultural human rights research, said Qi Yanping, director of the Human Rights Research Center, Shandong University.

Tom Zwart, Professor of human rights law at VU University Amsterdam and director of the Cross-cultural Human Rights Center, expressed confidence in a brighter future in the cross-cultural human rights research as more experts from the Middle East and Latin America were included this year.
