November 13, 2017 -- Special employment policies should be adopted to address deep-rooted poverty in some regions, said Zhang Yizhen, deputy minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

5.53 million impoverished people in China had been employed by the end of October, which is a remarkable achievement, Zhang said.

However, their employment condition is not stable and there are still over 9 million unemployed impoverished people facing challenges of old age, low education level and poor market competitiveness.

Zhang urged all localities should adapt employment policies to real conditions, create public welfare jobs for poverty alleviation, and encourage rural entrepreneurship.

Zhang stressed that more efforts should be given to vocational training in order to improve employment.
