Nov. 23, 2018 -- In a few decades ago, Shigatse was regarded as a barren land with the biggest sandstorm in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. After many years of afforestation work and desertification control, the ecological demonstration area has been built on the north bank of the Yarlung Zangbo River with a large number of trees.
Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Shigatse Municipal People's Government has taken practical actions of planting trees and establishing environmental awareness in protecting ecological environment of Tibet.
According to Shigatse's Department of Environmental Protection, the city has attached great importance to the work of ecological environmental protection and promoted the construction of ecological civilization, and strictly adhered to the baseline of ecological function and environmental quality to remain the original state of ecological environment with great efforts in recent years.
Ecological pattern has been continuously optimized through building ecological engineering and ecological space system in the City.
Green development has been promoted. Relying on the advantages of ecological resources, the city has implemented the policy of ecological compensation, deepened the construction of ecological poverty alleviation projects in order to help the development of ecological industry and preserving clean energy. Local villagers' life has become better and better with planting featured products, too.
Ecological homestead building has been steadily speeded. The construction of modern plateau cities has helped increasing greening rate of Shigaze. Besides, 245 ecological villages and 6 ecological towns have been built over the years.
Shigaze City,as the important ecological construction zone and ecological corridor, is listed among national ecological civilization pilots. Nowadays, the ecological security barrier has been constructed with green hills; the city is filled with fresh air.
