Dec. 28, 2016 -- As most migratory birds already returned to their winter habitat in China's Tibet, now is arguably the best time for bird watching.

In recent years, thanks to the conservation of migratory birds' habitats and the evergrowing awareness on protecting wild animals, the living environment of wild migratory birds gets great improvement. At the moment, Tibet has 47 nature reserves, accounting for 34.35 percent of Tibet's total area. Besides, there are 22 ecological function conservation zones, in which wild animals are well protected.

Pasang Tsering, a farmer living near Phanpo Black-Necked Crane Nature Reserve in Lhundrup County of Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, knows black-necked cranes' life habitats like the back of his hands.  "There were only one ore two hundred black-necked cranes ten years ago. With the improvement of local environment, the number of black-necked cranes increases greatly. Thousands of black-necked cranes are seen here. Government and local farmers work together to protect these migratory birds. People live in harmony with animals." Pasang said.

Currently, China's Tibet has become the worlds largest winter habitat for black-necked cranes. The number of black-necked cranes has climbed to more than 8,000 from the 2,000 in the past. It accounts for over 80 percent of the total black-necked crane populations in the world.
