LHASA, April 17 (Xinhua) -- Among thousands of sites for Tibetan Buddhist activities in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, Ritog Temple stands out as "the world's loneliest temple", as Chinese netizens call it.

 

Ritog Temple was built more than 600 years ago on a peninsular in sacred Lake Yamzhog Yumco. It is the only building on the tiny peninsular, which is in a remote area along the northern bank of Lake Yamzhog Yumco. Usually, there is only one monk in the temple.

 

Yamzhog Yumco, which means "Jasper Lake" in Tibetan, is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and is one of the three largest sacred lakes in Tibet.
