Consumer protection platform in China’s Tibet recovers huge losses

LHASA, March 15 -- China's Tibet Autonomous Region retrieved total economic losses of 11.4 million yuan (about 1.8 million U.S. dollars) for the region's consumers via its consumer protection platform in 2021, local authorities said Tuesday.
 
Tuesday is the World Consumer Rights Day. Some 31,600 consumer complaints, reports and consultations were handled by Tibet's 12315 platform in 2021, according to the regional market regulation administration.
 
"About 99.27 percent of the consumer complaints were handled on time, and 95.19 percent of reports from consumers received timely responses in 2021, both percentages higher than the national averages," said Tseten, director of the administration.
 
To better safeguard the rights of consumers, Tibet has also established 73 online dispute resolution enterprises and promoted its online consumer dispute handling mechanism, according to the administration.
 
Key product quality and safety risk monitoring, and a series of public lectures on consumer rights protection were also carried out in the region to improve the market and consumption environment.
