July 21,2021 -- Last year, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region focused on the development of rural tourism and made significant progress in poverty alleviation. It received 10.61 million visitors in rural tourism, realizing an income of 1.217 billion yuan. A total of 86,000 farmers and herdsmen engaged in this field, with the per capita income of over 4,300 yuan.

The region promoted eight rural tour lines. Lhasa's Dagdong, Dekyi Tibetan inns, Shannan's Yulmed Village, Magmang Village and other 26 villages were inscribed on the list of state's model villages in rural tourism development. Lhasa City, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, developed various brands of rural family inns and rural tourism products with local characteristics. Shannan City also introduced two rural tourism products: Qonggyai Changkhyim and Nedong Tashi Choden.

This year, Tibet is expected to work on building five more tourism towns with local characteristics, ten model villages in rural tourism development. In addition, it will facilitate the college employment and create more job opportunities for farmers and herdsmen, which will encourage more people to engage in tourism development and share benefits of it.
