July 5,2021 -- The central government has been providing financial and tax support for the Tibet autonomous region since the region's peaceful liberation in 1951, and many thorny problems have been solved, said Chodrak, a regional finance official, on Wednesday.

He added that many things that failed to be accomplished in the past have now been fulfilled — especially since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2012.

"We have made all-around progress and historic achievements in various undertakings," Chodrak said.

Over the past seven decades, for example, the central government's financial assistance to Tibet has reached more than 1.63 trillion billion yuan ($252 billion), up from 10 million yuan in 1952 to more than 197.5 billion yuan in 2020 — a factor of nearly 20,000 times.

In 1988, Tibet's local fiscal revenue reached more than 2.26 million yuan, a reversal from the declines of the previous 20 years. In 2018, Tibet's local revenues exceeded 20 billion yuan. Total expenditures for the whole region exceeded 200 billion yuan in 2019.

This year, the region plans to invest 5.22 billion yuan in key livelihood projects. To date, more than 4.8 billion yuan has been tapped.
