Modern greenhouses bring better life

Aug.21,2020 -- In recent years, with the mode of "government+company+cooperatives", Denqen County of Qamdo City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, has developed local pillar industries on the basis of its local conditions. Taking greenhouse industry as an example, it has become a new channel for income growth in Xiemai Village of Denqen County.

60 vegetable greenhouses of Xiemai Village were set up in 2014. Because of a lack of advanced technology, the output of vegetables in these greenhouses was low and couldn’t meet increasing market demand.

To solve this problem, the local government decided to invite a company to run these greenhouses by using advanced techniques. Thanks to the help by aid-Tibet officials from Tianjin municipality, Jinpeng Agricultural Company was founded on March of 2017. Two months later, with an investment of 2.5 million yuan RMB from local anti-poverty industrial fund, and 10 million yuan RMB from Jinpeng Agricultural Company, an agricultural eco-industrial park was established here, covering an area of 115 mu (76,666.67㎡).

Moreover, Jinpeng Agricultural Company built a 2,000-square-meter intelligent greenhouse and began to engage in flower business. Now, there are more than 2,000 flowerpots in it, such as cloves, roses and begonia.

In 2019, through a cooperation between local government and Jinpeng Agricultural Company, a logistics park of agricultural products was established.

In terms of technological improvement, the company had repaired greenhouses' roof films for keeping a temperature. It also used organic fertilizer, spray irrigation and agricultural machines to increase the output.

What's more, 17 employees from registered poverty households received plantation training. Among them, four administrative staff learned the technology in seedlings, plantation, pest control, soil testing and formulated fertilization. Others got the skills of plantation.

During this Dragon Boat Festival holiday, the flower greenhouse welcomed a number of visitors.

"It enriches our life. These flowers are fresh and affordable. This geranium flowerpot only costs me 50 yuan RMB. My sister pays 35 yuan RMB for a begonia flowerpot," said Xiang Qiu, who lives in Denqen County and often comes here for buying flowers.

The development of modern greenhouses also creates jobs for local residents and facilitates poverty elimination.

Norbu, an administrative staff of the company, used to do transport business. In 2017, because of the lack of business opportunities and low payment, he gave it up and began to work here.

In the past, local villagers moved to remote areas at altitudes between 3,000 and 5,000 m in mountains to dig cordyceps sinensis every May and June. Norbu was one of them. Now, he hasn't gone digging cordyceps sinensis since he worked in Jinpeng Agricultural Company.

"Every month, I could earn 5,600 yuan RMB between May and June, which is 1,400 higher than I usually get. Except that, I also could enjoy fresh vegetables every day," said Norbu.

Now, 17 villagers from registered poverty households are working in Jinpeng Agricultural Company. Each person earns 3,600 yuan RMB every month.

"13 high-standard greenhouses are under construction, which are expected to be put into use in this August. Jufeng grapes, chocolate strawberries and grapefruits will be planted," said Wang Chunbo, deputy manager of Jinpeng Agricultural Company.
