Tibet ranks the first in national tourism recovery rate

July 28,2020 -- "I didn't expect the weather to be so cool and comfortable in Tibet. What a great summer resort!" Says Ms. Xiao, a tourist from Hangzhou City of Zhejiang Province. Recently, more and more tourists come to Lhasa City, the capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region for tourism.
 
According to relevant data, Tibet has received over 8.33 million tourists during the first half of this year, ranking the first in the national tourism market recovery rate, its tourism has taken the lead in achieving positive growth nationwide since May and June, realizing year-on-year growths of 27.04% and 36.86% respectively.
 
Since March, while making great efforts to prevent and control COVID-19, Tibet has opened nearly 300 natural scenic spots, carried out themed tourist activities and developed several classic tourist routes. In addition, Department of Tourism Development of Tibet Autonomous Region has launched the application and evaluation ofregion-level demonstration bases for health & wellness tourism and green tourism since March. The first batch of pilot projects will focus on the task of building Lhasa City into an international tourist & cultural city and Nyingchi City into an international ecotourism area. Taking the opportunity of building demonstration bases, the department will vigorously develop characteristic industries such as Tibetan medicine bath, hot spring, holiday resort, green ecology, etc.
 
Wang Songping, the director of Department of Tourism Development of Tibet Autonomous Region says, "Although Tibet's tourism has been greatly impacted by the epidemic, in the second half of this year, we will actively take measures such as developing new products, carrying forward themed tourist activities, strengthening online promotion, to realize an overall recovery."
