Comai Village’s experience of getting rich

July 16,2020 -- The picturesque Comai Village of Doilungdeqen District is 45 km away from Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. "Comai" means "village by a green lake" in Tibetan, and the village is well-known for its Danmai Lhaco. In 2019, its annual per capita net income reached 14,000 yuan RMB, meeting poverty alleviation standard.

In recent years, with "ecological livability" as the key, Comai Village has raised farmers and herdsmen's awareness of environmental protection, vigorously promoted the construction of beautiful countryside and carried out garbage classification. Meanwhile, the village has organized volunteer service teams of farmers and herdsmen to implement environmental sanitation renovation, greening publicity, voluntary tree planting and other activities. Up to now, the village's green coverage ratio has exceeded 68%, with 2.66 km2 of grazing land returning to grassland.

Nowadays, loving reading and advocating learning are becoming new trends in the village. To meet fellow villagers' needs, village committee cadres often teach them some knowledge on mandarin, Internet, honest management and others, as well as assist in carrying out agricultural technology trainings, so as to foster agroup of educated and skilled farmers and herdsmen.

The village's annual per capita net income increased from 1,120 yuan RMB in 1993 and 5,050 yuan RMB in 2008, to 14,000 yuan RMB in 2019, reflecting its effective measures and remarkable achievements in poverty alleviation.

The village carries out villagers' quality improvement projects including "no smoking and drinking", garbage sorting and others. It holds business promotion classes for party members and cadres, Tibetan-Chinese bilingual classes as well as "farmers and herdsmen night school" to improve the masses' scientific and cultural qualities and their ability of getting rid of poverty and becoming rich. Comai Village has been selected as "national rural governance model village", "regional health promotion model village" and "city-level rural revitalization pilot village in Lhasa ".
