June 2,2020 -- Tibetan carpet is an indispensable daily necessity in Tibetan families, with exquisite production, richly patterned and colored, as well as unique ethnic characteristics. Tenzin Chinley, the person in charge of Tibetan Carpet Processing Farmers' Specialized Cooperative in Nyangdoi Town, Gyangze County, Xigaze City, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, was born in 1991 and always had a dream of developing Tibetan carpet. After graduating from university in 2014, he gave up civil service examination, and started his own Tibetan carpet business.

"Gyangze Tibetan carpet is a kind of famous handicraft culture showing ethnic unique style. I studied architectural design at university, combined relevant knowledge with Tibetan carpet technique, and made carpets with 3D effect by hand. My products are very popular in the market," says Tenzin Chinley.

Using professional knowledge, he has invented unique technology of "weaving Tibetan carpets according to paper pattern". This technology has been applied for a national invention patent.

"The biggest difficulties in starting my business were technical and financial problems. Fortunately, with support of government policies and funds in recent years, my technology has been applied to production, achieving better economic benefits and solving the masses' employment to some degree." He says.

The new technology has broken the limitation of single Tibetan carpet products, flexibly combined history, religion, architecture, painting, calligraphy as well as other cultural elements and applied 3D effects. It has brought new space for the development of Tibetan carpet industry, and the products are well received by customers.

At the same time, the application of new technology provides opportunities and space for the development of local cooperative. At present, 60 people are hired by the cooperative, and the income of one third of them is 58% higher than that of the same industry. Each of 40 people in the cooperative earns over 30,000 yuan RMB in a year. In order to achieve common prosperity, the cooperative has also distributed 180,000 yuan RMB from annual dividends to 89 poor families of no income.

"Next, we will accelerate the transformation and upgrading of technology and employment, make full use of the cooperative's "paper pattern technology", and combine various traditional ethnic cultures with modern cultures to produce more exquisite 3D Tibetan carpets and planar tapestries, so as to help more people around find jobs and get rich," says Tenzin Chinley.
