Tibet renovated 43,600 dilapidated houses over past four years

April 13,2020 -- Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region is the only provincial-level contiguous poor region in the country due to its special natural conditions and geography. To ensure safe housing of poor people, The Housing and Rural-Urban Development Department of Tibet Autonomous Region has advanced the renovation of rural dilapidated houses.
 
The data (2016-2019) shows that Tibet has allocated 788 million yuan RMB for renovating 43,600 dilapidated houses, mainly covering regional registered impoverished households, people who live on basic living allowances and rural decentralized support, and poor families of disabled people.
 
"The renovation of dilapidated houses plays a significant role in lifting the region out of poverty, improving people's living conditions and enhancing people's sense of happiness, fulfillment and security," says a spokesman with Housing and Rural-Urban Development Department of Tibet Autonomous Region.
 
The region adopted lots of economies including low-cost construction and obtaining materials from local sources while ensuring the quality and safe housing.
 
The regional housing and rural-urban development department also provided training for 6,642 farmers and herdsmen to upgrade their skills in construction between 2016 and 2019, an effective way to encourage their participation in livelihood projects and increase income.
