Aug. 7, 2019 -- Recently, a training course on digital reading promotion for the blind has been held in Lhasa City, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, sponsored by the China Braille Library and undertaken by the Tibet Library and Tibet Disabled Persons' Federation. More than 40 visually impaired people and staffs of libraries in various cities have participated in the training. Leaders of China Braille Library, Yunnan Provincial Library, Fujian Provincial Association of the Blind and other institutions have conducted idea exchanges on the theme of "digital reading promotion for the blind" and "information barrier-free reading".

After the training, staff of Tibet Library have distributed white canes donated by Fujian Provincial Association of the Blind and 40 network intelligent listening machines to those visually impaired people. "These 40 listening machines are distributed in the form of lending for half a year. When time is up we will visit these borrowers and understand the use of each machine. If the machine is well used, one can renew it; if not, we'll take it back and lend it to someone who needs it more."

Currently, organized and implemented by the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China, Ministry of Finance of the People's Republic of China, Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China, National Radio and Television Administration and the China Disabled Persons' Federation, the digital reading promotion project for the blind has been already launched in Tibet. Meanwhile, Tibet Library has purchased 1,000 network intelligent listening machines with the project funds, which are free to use for visually impaired people in the region.
