With an altitude of 8,844 meters, Qomolangma is the world's highest mountain and visiting card of sports tourism in Tibet attracting thousands of visitors, hikers and mountaineers from all over the world every year. In recent years, considering the safety of climbers, logistical support, emergency rescue, and environmental carrying capacity of Qomolangma, relevant departments in Tibet have taken various measures to continuously optimize the management and service of climbing Qomolangma on the northern slope.

 

In terms of management, all relevant departments have strengthened system construction, and made restrictive requirements on the age of climbers. Besides, mountaineers should possess climbing experience above 8000 meters, and apply for a mountaineering license before February 28 every year. During the application, resume, mountaineering certificate, methods and routes would be strictly examined and verified. Those who have no climbing ability or rely on others are forbidden to climb.

 

Safety measures and rescue security have been intensified. Climbing activities in Tibet should be carried out only in spring with less wind. Relevant departments have also implemented the environmental protection system for mountain climbing, intensified publicity and education, actively taken action of garbage collection. This year, 8.21 tons of household garbage and 2.46 tons of sanitary sewage have been cleaned up. Currently, a set of high-efficiency, safe and reliable, as well as green and environmental protection mountaineering mode has been formed on the northern slope of Qomolangma.
