Milestones of Tibet’s development

1. Peaceful Liberation

Apr. 2, 2019 -- On May 23, 1951, the Agreement between the Central People's Government and the Local Government of Tibet on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet ("17-Article Agreement") was signed, officially proclaiming the peaceful liberation of Tibet. Tibet was liberated from the bondage of imperialist aggression, creating the basic premise for Tibet to achieve common progress and development with the whole country.

2. Democratic Reform

In 1959, the Communist Party of China (CPC) mobilized and led the Tibetan people to carry out democratic reform, which was the most extensive, profound and greatest social reform in Tibetan history, an epoch-making historical event in the history of Tibet's social development and human rights, and a tremendous progress with great significance in the history of human civilization and the world's human rights.

3. Establishment of Socialist System

On September 1, 1965, the First Session of the First People's Congress of Tibet was held. At this session, the Tibet Autonomous Region was established, which marked Tibet's social system realizing a historic leap.

4. Adoption of Reform and Opening up

China adopted reform and opening up in 1978, which helped to liberate and develop social productive forces. The living standards of all ethnic peoples in Tibet were greatly improved.

5. Implementation of CPC's Religious Policy

Over the past 60 years, Tibet accelerated contact, communication, integration and solidarity among all ethnic groups.Tibetan Buddhism activities were carried out in healthy and regular order. Excellent ethnic culture was inherited and protected. Tibet has been thriving in the big family of our motherland. [Liu Fang, Zhu Shan, Zhu Nan]
