Tibet: 1,493 industrial projects lift 210,000 people out of poverty

Mar. 14, 2019 -- With an investment of 28.69 billion yuan RMB, the construction of 2,263 industrial poverty alleviation projects has started in China's Tibet Autonomous Region from 2016 to 2018. Among them, 1,493 projects have been completed, lifting 210,000 people out of poverty.

China's Tibet has had 590,000 registered impoverished people by the end of 2015, 40.3% of whom were scheduled to be shaken off poverty through industrial development. Based on rich resources and its own industrial condition, Tibet focuses on the growth of 6 poverty relief industrial projects, including planting industry, breeding industry, cultural tourism and manufacturing, which have gained rapid development.

During the period of the 13th Five-Year Plan, Tibet has 3,015 scheduled industrial projects in total, with an investment of 51,006 billion yuan RMB: 11.149 billion yuan into planting industry, 10.424 billion yuan RMB into breeding industry, 8.3 billion yuan RMB into manufacturing and 3.866 billion yuan RMB into cultural tourism.

Tibet's number of poor population has fallen to 150,000 by the end of 2018. The poverty headcount ratio has dropped to less than 6%. Tibet plans to lift 150,000 people living below current poverty line out of poverty and eliminate poverty in 19 counties by the end of 2019.
