Feb. 25, 2019 --  According to the Tibet Autonomous Regional Administration of CAAC ("TAR Administration" for short), all the five airports in Tibet witnessed 1,153 flights and 122,352 passengers during the 2019 Double New Year Holiday (Spring Festival and Losar, the traditional Tibetan New Year), a year-on-year increase of 7.9% and 5% respectively. Among them, Lhasa Gonggar Airport shared 881 flights and 103,751 passengers, up 8.5% and 8.1% respectively over the same period of last year.

As the holiday ended on Feb. 13, airports in Tibet embraced another travel rush, with migrant workers and businessmen as the main passengers. It is estimated that the post-holiday travel rush will last till early March.

To ensure the passengers a safe journey, the TAR Administration has adopted a series of measures to deal with the air traffic pressure. Considering the changeable weather in recent days, the emergency response plan has been improved.

Currently, there are five airports in Tibet, namely Gonggar Airport of Lhasa, Bamda Airport of Qamdo City, Mainling Airport of Nyingchi City, Gunsa Airport of Nagri Prefecture and Heping Airport of Xigaze City.
