Potala Palace closed for two days during the Double New Year Holiday

Feb. 6, 2019 -- The Potala Palace, one of China's top tourist destinations in Lhasa, southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region, was originally built by Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo in the 7th Century A.D.. The palace was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.

At the end of 2018, the second round of "Winter Tour in Tibet" preferential policy was successively implemented. During this special offer period, November 1, 2018 to March 15, 2019, the palace is free to visit. According to statistics, since the implementation of the preferential policy for "Winter Tour in Tibet", the Potala Palace has received an average of 4,189 tourists from home and abroad every day.

The Spring Festival and the traditional Tibetan New Year-Losar happen to be the same day this year, which fall on Feb. 5, 2019. According to the administrative office of the Potala Palace scenic spot, the palace will be closed on February 4, 2019 and the second day of the Tibetan New Year, February 6, 2019.

On the first day of the Tibetan New Year (February 5), it will be opened at 1:30 in the morning. In addition, in order to ensure the safety of pilgrims and tourists, the guardrails have been set up on both sides of the passageway along the palace. Please obey the management of the staffs and queue up consciously to enter.
