update:November 06,2018
Nov. 6, 2018 -- According to the Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Lhasa City, this year, 55 proposed energy-saving renovation projects for existing buildings are determined through field reconnaissance, with a total area of over 670,000 square meters. There are 610 renovation buildings of 101 units including hospitals, schools as well as party and government units in 6 counties (districts). Most counties (districts) will complete the renovation projects by the end of this year, and it's estimated that these buildings will be warm in winter and cool in summer after renovation.

Energy shortage is becoming more and more serious, and building energy consumption accounts for a large proportion of the total energy consumption of the whole society. Therefore, energy-saving renovation of existing buildings is one of the important ways to promote building energy conservation in China, as well as an important method to improve building thermal comfort and achieve sustained development of the construction industry.

A person in charge of the Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development said the renovation project was launched in 2013 as a sub-project of the heating project in Lhasa City. The energy-saving renovation mainly aims at the exterior walls, windows and roofs of the original buildings, without changing the address structure and frame. Through the renovation, the thermal performance and the indoor thermal comfort of the buildings will be improved, and the appearance of the buildings can be improved, and sound insulation and noise reduction will be achieved.

At present, most of the existing buildings in Lhasa City adopt frame and brick-concrete structures, while the exterior windows are made of aluminum single glazing, which causes insufficient thermal performance. After renovation, not only the comfort level of buildings are significantly improved, but also buildings are more conducive to health and energy saving.

Since this year, the Bureau of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has accelerated the renovation projects in the main urban areas and counties (districts) on the basis of the pilot renovation projects.

At present, with the support of relevant departments, the preliminary work of renovation projects in six counties (districts) are completed including Taktse District, Chushur County, Maizhokunggar County, Lhundrup County, Nyemo County as well as Damxung County. The renovation projects in counties (districts) focus on the large-area buildings (over 300 square meters) that have been built for more than five years and with over 2 storeys' structure. This project started construction in August this year, and now 63 units have started construction in succession.
