Tibet’s tourism industry maintains good development momentum

Oct. 29, 2018 -- In the first three quarters of this year, Tibet's tourism industry presented good momentum of development, according to the Tourism Development Committee of Tibet Autonomous Region.

From January to September, Tibet received 31.03 million tourists from home and abroad, an increase of 29.9% year-on-year, completing 92.3% of the annual plan. Among them, 280,000 inbound tourists were received, up 21.5% year-on-year, while 30.75 million domestic tourists were received, up 30% year-on-year. The total tourism revenue reached 44.9 billion yuan, up 29.8% year-on-year, completing 104.5% of the annual plan, among which, foreign exchange revenue from tourism totaled 172.37 million yuan, up 22.4% year-on-year, and domestic tourism revenue reached 43.8 billion yuan, up 30% year-on-year.

Actively taking tourism as a forerunner industry, Tibet's tourism industry conscientiously implemented the spirit and instructions of the party committee and government of Tibet Autonomous Region. Through unremitting efforts, Tibet's winter tourism made historic breakthrough and peak tourism attained sustainable growth. Tourism began to play an increasingly prominent role in promoting economic and social development, enriching the people, and promoting exchanges among various ethnic groups. The leading industrial status of tourism gradually formed.

Adopting the method of "come in to experience, go out to publicize", the overall brand awareness of Tibet's tourism industry was further enhanced. During this year's China Tibet Tourism and Culture Expo, the exhibition and promotion work focused on the promotion of "the earth's third pole brand", which fully demonstrated the achievements of tourism development and won high praise and great attention from all walks of life.

Besides, through capital raising, the tourism infrastructure was constantly improved. This year, 276 million yuan of tourism investment projects were attained. Among them, 203 million yuan was invested by the central budget, 26.43 million yuan was earmarked for the tourism development, and 46.46 million yuan was allocated by the national tourism development fund to subsidize local projects.

In addition, the tourism market environment was further optimized. Highlighting the two theme of "safety" and "service", Tibet's tourism system carried out the tourism market remediation and production safety supervision and inspection work,  effectively protecting the legitimate rights and interests of tourists and ensuring the safety and order of the tourism industry.
