Metok Town creates characteristic brands

Oct. 15, 2018 -- In recent years, relying on the geography superiority, Metok Town has striven to create characteristic brands, which has promoted the sustained and sound development of all work in the town.

The industrial development of Metok Town benefits from the resource advantages of tea. In recent years, the town has regarded tea as dominant industry to create a distinctive brand and increase people's income. Up to now, there are 1,736 mu (1 acre=6.0702846 mu) tea gardens in the town, among which, 780 mu havebrought economy benefits. The accumulated income of the masses was more than 1.404 million yuan, while the income of poor households increased by more than 126,000 yuan. 

At the same time, the planting of honey pomelos, bananas and other distinctive agricultural products enriches people in Metok Town. Since this year, the vegetable base in Yadong Village has been expanded rapidly to 300 mu on the basis of the original 54 mu and the average household income has reached more than 3,000 yuan. In addition, seven administrative villages under the jurisdiction of Metok Town will be constructed as demonstration villages of affluent society. 387 mu of high-standard farmland renovation project has been implemented in three administrative villages namely Miri, Madi and Yarang, and efforts have been made to create specialized cooperative, agritainment as well as chili base.

In addition, relying on scenic spots, Metok Town has developed eco-tourism, and changed villages into tourist attractions. Besides, efforts have been made to encourage the local people to make full use of idle resources to transform their spare housing into hotels, and to transform handicrafts into tourist commodities, which aims at spreading the Monba and Lhoba folk culture.

Metok Town has carried out various training programs to guide unemployed college students to establish professional planting cooperatives with their majors, open clothing stores or cold drink shops and so on.
