Establishing charity supermarket offers help for orphans, needy families and other vulnerable groups in Lhasa City. At present, two charity supermarkets which are located in Xuexin Village and Maizhokunggar County have been opened, and the other two supermarkets will be opened in Tohlung Dechen District and Chushur County at the end of this year, according to Civil Affairs Bureau of Lhasa.

The supermarkets sell the necessities of life to the needy people by means of“zero economic profit”or discount, so as to solve many of life's common problems of the vulnerable groups. When the poor purchase the necessities of life, they must show valid certificates or related certification materials to get preferential price.

At present, all kinds of daily necessities and food in the supermarket located in Xuexin Village are being enriched, and the business hours are extended to 10:30 p.m. every day, which is convenient for people to shop. Besides, the two supermarkets have given out about 20,000 preferential cards to low-income families through the cooperation between government and firms. In the first half of this year, the sales of Baiyi Charity Supermarket were about 350,000 yuan, benefiting more than 200 urban low-income residents and the disabled.

In addition, the supermarkets will provide platforms for receiving materials as well as money donations from the society, and give them to people in need.

By 2020, a three-level (city-county-town) network of charity organizations will be fully established in Lhasa, and commonweal organization system will also be formed. Volunteer service team is expanding, and volunteer work is in progress. Besides, various preferential policies supporting the development of philanthropy will be implemented to help more vulnerable groups.

Lhasa will speed up the construction of charity supermarkets, communities and other charities. More donation activities will be carried out in depth to raise funds.

In the future, Lhasa will adopt various ways to encourage the public to donate voluntarily and promote the development of philanthropy. Aiming at the diversified needs of the vulnerable groups, Lhasa will focus on exploring and creating brand projects such as legal aid, psychological aid as well as environmental protection.
