Jan. 17, 2018 -- Now there are 95 traditional national handicraft industrial entities in Shigatse City. The industrialization development scale is expanding continuously and the gathering effectiveness is revealed preliminarily, according to local industrial and commercial authorities.

From January to October in 2017, the total output value of Mt. Qomolangma characteristic handicraft industry reached 188 million yuan, increasing 25%. The output value of Tibetan incense, featured tourist commodities, and ethnic costumes was increased 39.6%, 17.3% and 10.5% respectively. The output value of handicraft industry in industry cluster districts reached 99.3 million yuan, increasing 33.4% and accounting for 53% of the total industrial output value.

In 2016, the Mt. Qomolangma characteristic handicraft industry was confirmed as one of Shigatse City's key seven industries. Focuses on regional resources and comparative advantages such as Thangka, Tibetan incense, Tibetan carpets, gold and silver bronze wares, and ethnic costumes, Shigatse City vigorously implemented the strategy of revitalizing the Mt, Qomolangma characteristic handicraft industry. Therefore, the pace of industrial optimization and upgrading was accelerated. At the same time, national handicraft enterprises were encouraged to increase investment in research and development, enhance product development and design capability, and promote the combination of traditional handicraft industry and modern equipment and technology, so as to provide guarantees for the improvement of product quality.
