Sep.18,2017-- All counties in Tibet to have access to roads by 2018

A road project in southeast Tibet’s Motuo County is about to begin. On its completion by the end of 2018, all the 74 counties in Tibet will have access to blacktop roads, according to a notice issued by local authorities.

Tibet has been making a growing investment in building the region’s road system in rural areas. From 2012 to 2016, Tibet spent a total of 99.7 billion yuan in building roads with 33 percent of the investment to rural areas.

In 2017, Tibet plans to launch 1,344 rural road projects with an investment of 23 billion yuan.

In 2016, about 170,000 farmers and herdsmen were employed for the road construction projects, increasing their incomes by 4.8 billion yuan in total, said Wang Jinhe, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Transportation in Tibet Autonomous Region.

Wang estimates the total highway mileage in Tibet will break 90,000 kilometers by the end of 2017.
