Auto market prospers in Lhasa

July 27,2017--"Even Lhasa gets traffic jams, especially at peak commuting times. It is also hard to find parking." Residents in Lhasa probably share this sentiment, which also reflects the growing prosperity of the auto market in Tibet.

"In the past, a horse, a gun, and a knife were all Tibetan nomadic men needed to make a living. Now, nomads’ incomes have increased, and almost everyone uses automobiles to get around. People even ride motorbikes when herding their livestock," Sodor, a Tibetan youth from Zharing Township, Amdo County in Nagchu Prefecture said, "Today, many farmers and nomads are buying cars, constituting a large proportion of car consumption."

With the rapid development of Tibet’s economy and society and the improvement of people’s living standards, more and more people are buying private cars. The use of automobiles is becoming widespread for the common people.

Due to Tibet’s special geographical environment and climate conditions, SUV models occupy half of the region’s automobile market.
