July 17,2017--Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, a batch of mega transportation construction projects have been successfully completed in Tibet, making great contributions to China’s poverty alleviation and building of a moderately prosperous society in all respects.

In 2016, the region’s fixed-asset investment in transportation reached 40.27 billion yuan, with a year-on-year increase of 91.05 percent. By the end of 2016, it boasted 82,500 kilometers of highways, representing a yearly growth of 5.35 percent. With 62 rural highway projects launched, 10 poor counties were lifted out of poverty and an income of 4.824 billion yuan was created for locals participating in construction work.

In the first half of 2017, 10.611 billion yuan was invested in the region’s major highway projects and 6.67 billion yuan in its rural highway projects. Continuous efforts will be made to build safe and modern highways in the region.

The opening of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway in 2006 marked the start of a new era in transportation of the region. The construction of Nyingchi-Lhasa Railway and Lhasa–Nyingchi superhighway begun in 2014 further enhanced the development of the region’s transportation.

Under the support of the country, Tibet is expected to build a comprehensive transportation network with Lhasa as its center, bringing much convenience to locals and promoting trade facilitation.
