July 5,2017--The main parts of the second phase of the Nyingchi-Lhasa section of National Road No. 318 has been completed, increasing the total length of Tibet's high-grade highways to nearly 500 kilometers.
The construction began in January, 2016 with 11 companies participating in the project. The second phase of the Nyingchi-Lhasa section covers a total distance of 236 kilometers. With a designed speed of 80 km/h, this four-lane highway is to shorten the driving time from Nyingchi to Lhasa to four hours, a cut by nearly three hours.
This highway is expected to improve Tibet’s transportation capabilities, help upgrade its tourism industry and quicken its integration with the Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone.
