“Tibet has the largest number of ancient books in China, but some of them are on the edge of perishing and need urgent protection,” said Penpa Tsering, vice director of the Ancient Book Protection Center in Tibet.

 

Most of Tibetan ancient books are preserved separately in over a thousand temples. In 2010, a general investigation for ancient books in Tibet was initiated and 65 percent of the work has been finished.

 

It is estimated that the investigation will be finished by 2019, added Penpa Tsering.
