Lhasa to build 2nd Social Welfare Institute

May 11,2017--According to the Lhasa Civil Affairs Bureau, Lhasa plans to build the 2nd Social Welfare Institute so as to meet the pension service demand of general old people and solve problems such as the lack of old-age care institutions, simplex service functions, low service quality and level, and so on. The 2nd Social Welfare Institute is expected to have 650 beds and it will be created as a comprehensive nursing institution for the aged.
 
By the end of 2016, there are 532600 permanent resident population in Lhasa, among which aged population above 60 years old are 57200, accounting for 10.74% of the total population. Lhasa has entered the aged society. At present, there are 9 nursing institutions for the aged in Lhasa.
 
With the growing of aged population, the problem of supporting old people also surges. Now apart from the Wubao Concentrated Feeding Center, there are hardly any other social nursing institutions in Lhasa.
 
To further promote the healthy development of pension service industry, Lhasa plans to build the 2nd Social Welfare Institute.
 
The 2nd Social Welfare Institute is planed to cover a floor area of 150 mu and building area of 36000 square meters. 650 beds are planed to be provided.
 
At the same time, Lhasa City also vigorously develops services for the aging at home by taking measures such as integrating social service resources, setting up comprehensive service institutions in communities, and establishing matched community service system.
 
Besides, Lhasa City will positively take advantage of incubator bases of communities and social organizations, develop professional organizations, and encourage social organizations and enterprises to take part in old-age services.
