April 18,2017--The Mountaineering Team of southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region has announced recently that 3 female Tibetan rock climbers will be sent to Chongqing Municipality competing for the 2017 International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Cup. One race of the world-level rock climbing competition will be held in Chongqing’s National Rock Climbing Demonstration Park on 22nd and 23rd of this month. 130 climbers from more than 20 countries will take part in 4 individual contests.

According to Sonam Gyatso, chief coach of TAR Mountaineering Team, the annual IFSC World Cup competition is the largest-scale rock climbing contest in the world. Three climbers who attend the contest are Ringchen Lhamo, Purbu Droma and Ringzin Wangmo. “All of them are the best climbers in TAR, and have won champions in Asian and national contests before.” he says.

Currently, climbers are doing adjust trainning before the competition. After this one, they will attend another race in Nanjing of Jiangsu Province at end of April, what’s more, Ringchen Lhamo is going to join a contest in Japan on 6th and 7th of May.

With regard to good results of this time, Sonam Gyatso admits that certain gap between world strong teams and us on training and equipment still exists as this game develops relatively late in our region, though Tibetan climbers especially female Tibetan climbers have advantage on body strength. As a coach, he hopes all athletes play their usual level of capacity. “A competition is also a test on peacetime training, only a good play is worthy of the hard training.” he says.
