Tibet enters the era of "optical network cities"

Feb. 10, 2017 -- According to the Communications Administration of Tibet Autonomous Region, at the moment, seven cities in China's Tibet have reached the standard of optical network cities", marking that China's Tibet has entered the era of "optical network cities". In the period of 13th Five-Year Plan, all administrative villages will have access to fiber-optical network. Tibet's unincorporated villages will also be fully covered by mobile communication.
 
“In 2016, we organized cities in China's Tibet to apply for the telecom public service pilot project. 3,126 administrative villages in Lhasa, Shigatse, Shannan, Nyingchi, Qamdo and Nagqu have applied for that project successfully", said an official of the Communications Administration of Tibet Autonomous Region. 300 unincorporated villages have access to mobile communication, and 200 administrative villages are covered by broadband. Internet reached 83.8 percent of Tibet's villages. Lhasa and Nyingchi have become China's broadband demonstration cities.
 
By the end of 2016, the number of phone users had reached 3.23 million. There are 100 phones for every 100 people. There are about 402,000 fixed broadband users in southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. The family Internet penetration rate amounted to 46.8 percent.
 
Currently, seven cities in China's Tibet have reached the standard of “optical network cities”, marking that China's Tibet has entered the era of “optical network cities”. 100 percent of administrative villages in Tibet are connected with mobile signal coverage. Internet reached 83.8 percent of Tibet’s administrative villages.
 
The Communications Administration of Tibet Autonomous Region will accelerate the construction of broadband network and push forward the building of broadband network infrastructure this year. 470,00 households in Tibet will have access to fixed broadband. The family fixed broadband penetration rate will reach 52 percent, of which 70 percent users will be connected with over 20M broadband. Besides, 50M broadband will achieve great development.
 
In 2017, 300 unincorporated villages will be covered by mobile Internet, and 64 administrative villages are connected with broadband. Scenic spots will be provided with wireless broadband service. 3,126 administrative villages will be installed optical fiber. In the period of 13th Five-Year Plan, all administrative villages will have access to fiber-optical network. Tibet’s unincorporated villages will also be fully covered by mobile communication.
