Tibet: 1.74 mln households have access to mobile Internet

Jan. 23, 2017 -- According to Tibet Regional Telecommunications Bureau, with an expected fixed-asset investment of 2.25 billion yuan completed in Tibet's telecommunications, telecommunications business has accomplished 6.42 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 24.4 percent. Tibet had 3.31 phone households at the end of last year, with 102.7 phones per 100 people. The number of broadband and mobile Internet families users reached 383,000 and 1.74 million respectively.
 
3,126 administrative villages in Lhasa, Shigatse, Shannan, Nyingchi, Chamdo and Nagqu have successfully applied for telecommunication universal service pilot project. 300 natural villages have been fully covered by mobile telecommunication. 200 administrative villages have access to broadband. Broadband covers 83.8 percent of villages in Tibet. Lhasa and Nyingchi have successfully applied for China's demonstrative cities of broadband.
