Nov. 3, 2016 -- Recently, Youbei Library, which is Tibet's first parent-child library, has started soft opening. Children can listen to stories and read for free in this library.

Built in 2009, the library is the first professional institute in China that promotes parent-child reading. It mainly provides reading services for children from zero to eight years old with the aim of building good reading habit, improving parent-child relationship, and opening children's view. At present, nearly 600 parent-child libraries have been built in more than 160 cities in China.

In recent years, the Tibet Culture Department, Tibet Women's Federation and Tibet Library have paid high attention to the civil reading. During the process of reading, it can not only build more closer parent-child relationship, but also can have positive influence to children's comprehensive development. Since the parent-children library is opened, it has attracted lots of parents and children to come to read, among which the youngest child is only 9 months old.

To guarantee reading, there are over 2000 volumes of books in the library, both fitting for parents and children. Here, children can be immersed in the joy of reading, while parents can ask and discuss education issues.

Previously, there is no parent-children library that provides professional reading services in Tibet. Now the Youbei Library is being known by the masses gradually. Reading services provided by the library mainly includes two parts. The one is to tell stories to children irregularly on weekdays, while it will always be held on weekend. The other one is to help parents choose books that are fit for their own children.

The parent-child library is a platform that provides book resources and help parents and children cultivate good reading habit.
