The construction of Lhasa-Nyingchi railway’s first tunnel completed

Oct. 27, 2016 -- After nearly thousands of builders' hardwork, the construction of Zhanang Tunnel which belongs to the Lhasa-Nyingchi section of Sichuan-Tibet railway was completed on Oct. 21, marking new progress made by the project of Lhasa-Nyingchi railway.

Zhanang Tunnel is located in Zhanang County, Lhoka City, Tibet Autonomous Region. Its stratum is relatively new and geologic structure is complex. The total length is 276 meters and maximum burial depth is 33 meters. This tunnel started construction on April 13, 2016. Under construction, builders faced many problems such as thicker soil layer, large settling volume, serious rock weathering and so on. Through 191 days' hard working, the tunnel was finally constructed with stage winning.

As a key project of the 13th Five Year Plan, the construction of Lhasa-Nyingchi railway is in full swing now. By the end of September, 5.151 billion yuan has been invested, accounting for 85.86% of the annual investment planning.

The total length of Lhasa-Nying railway is 435 kilometers and the total construction time is 7 years. The whole line belongs to single line electrificationⅠlevel and the designed driving speed is 160 kilometers per hour. It is Tibet's first electrified railway.

In March this year, Sichuan-Tibet railway was listed as a key project of the 13th Five Year Plan. The Lhasa-Nyingchi section has started construction since December, 2014, while dominant engineering such as Samdruling Tunnel, Bayu Tunnel and Bayu Yarlung Zangbo Bridge which are located between Sangri County and Gyaca County have started construction since December 19, 2014.
